Today’s watercolour shows a beach at one of its quieter moments. As summer approaches the beach will fill up with tourists and all the activity that goes along with fun in the sun. When it’s busy or when it’s calm, the beach remains an awesome place.
Do you mix colours for the red sand? I’m on the Bay of Fundy and we have lots of red sandy beaches here. I can never get it quite right but this looks about perfect to me.

The sand is a mixture of naples yellow and various reds ( winsor red, permanent alizarin crimson, sometimes even a little cadmium red light). It’s always a little trial and error.

Thanks! Definitely works here. I have used cad red before with yellow ochre and raw sienna. It’s a little too on the orange side. I’ll give these a try.
